## Volos and Pelion

Volos sits on the Pagasetic Gulf and works as the base for the Pelion peninsula, so most visitors combine the seafront town with trips up the mountain and along the coast. In the city the traditional tsipouradika eateries serve the local tsipouro spirit with meze, and the main market lies a short walk from the beach. Makrinitsa, one of the Pelion villages, is 9 kilometers away and the seaside village of Kala Nera is within 18 kilometers, while boats from the harbour reach the Sporades islands.
