Restaurants on Antiparos: Where to Eat in Town and Agios Georgios

Antiparos, Cyclades, Greece
Antiparos, Cyclades, Greece

The best places to eat on Antiparos are gathered in two spots - Antiparos Town, around the harbour and the main street, and Agios Georgios in the south - and our clear favourite is Yorgis Taverna in town. Every restaurant below is one we have eaten at ourselves, with an honest verdict and score out of ten.

Yorgis (10/10)

Makis Restaurant

Antiparos Town · 6/10

Makis Restaurant, by the harbour of Antiparos Town next to the car rental, grills meat and fish and serves salads and a range of appetizers. The Lavazza coffee is excellent and the bread comes in fresh, but on our visit the feta on the salad was hard and sharp, the chicken too dry and the meatballs only so-so, and both the food and the bill took a long time to arrive. A one-time visit for us.

Yorgis Taverna

Antiparos Town · 10/10

Yorgis Taverna has been our favourite restaurant on Antiparos ever since we first set foot on the island - about as close to perfection as the Cyclades get. The food is honest and mostly home-made, the prices low and the service perfect, with bread baked specially before opening. Try the world-famous zucchini balls, the crab salad, the stifado or the chicken souvlaki, washed down with a carafe of their wine; Garifalia's 50-50 crab-and-tuna salad, still not on the menu, is a treat. Always busy, always friendly - the best place to end the day, among friends.

Despotiko Restaurant

Agios Georgios · 7.5/10

The Despotiko Restaurant sits at the waterside in Agios Georgios, with a view of the sea and the island of Despotiko, serving appetizers, fish, meat dishes and salads. The tzatziki was fine and the zucchini balls not bad (though we are spoiled by Yorgis), and the Greek salad came with capers and soft cheese instead of cucumber; service was friendly and fast, apart from a forgotten saganaki. Reasonable to good.

Nautica Cafe

Antiparos Town · 8.5/10

Nautica Cafe stands in the harbour of Antiparos Town near the ferries, serving breakfast, waffles, ice cream, yoghurt, crepes and all sorts of snacks. Our double espresso arrived with a small bottle of water, home-made cake and a cookie - good coffee, good service and a nice view over the harbour and the boats. Clean and good, with nice seats.

Captain Pepinos Restaurant

Agios Georgios · 8/10

Captain Pepinos, at the harbour of Agios Georgios, is popular with the locals, serving mainly fresh fish and wine but also chicken, grilled meat, salads and appetizers. We had saganaki, a Greek salad and a crab salad made with real crab, as you would hope in a fish restaurant, with fresh bread. Good.

Zombos Taverna

Agios Georgios · 9.5/10

This large taverna sits a little behind the harbour front of Agios Georgios, in the south of Antiparos, with no printed menus - you choose in half-Greek, half-English. The bread is fresh and served whole, the white wine good, the tzatziki rich with cucumber and garlic and the zucchini balls delicious; the Greek salad is original with capers, soft and sharp cheeses, and the fillet in lemon sauce and the meatballs are excellent. For us the best restaurant in Agios Georgios.

Anargyros Restaurant

Antiparos Town · 9/10

Anargyros stands on the corner where the main street of Antiparos meets the harbour, clean and well kept, with original dishes and salads a little different from the usual taverna fare - pastas, grilled meat and chicken and plenty of Greek cooking. The salad Roko, with mango, rocket, cherry tomatoes and parmesan, looks like a Picasso and tastes very good, and so do the fried tomato balls, the tzatziki and the espresso. Very good.
