Where to eat on Syros
Ermoupoli holds most of the choice, with tavernas along the waterfront, mezedopolia in the backstreets and a lively cafe scene around Miaouli Square. The hilltop of Ano Syros adds small tavernas with views over the town, while the beach villages of Kini and Galissas are known for fresh fish by the water.
Local specialities of Syros
Syros is famous for a handful of local products worth seeking out. San Michali is a sharp, protected hard cheese made on the island; loukoumi, the Greek version of Turkish delight, has been produced in Ermoupoli for over a century; and halvadopita, a soft nougat wafer, is the classic Syros sweet.
