Chania airport (CHQ), named after Ioannis Daskalogiannis, sits on the Akrotiri peninsula east of Chania town and serves western Crete. You can pre-book a private transfer to meet you at arrivals, share a shuttle, or take a licensed taxi from the rank. Chania taxis charge a regulated fare to set zones, with an airport surcharge and a small charge per large bag.
Because the airport is only a short drive from Chania town, a taxi or transfer there is quick. For Rethymno and the west-coast beaches a private transfer saves changing buses with luggage.

The bus from Chania airport
A KTEL bus links Chania airport with Chania town's bus station several times a day, and from there frequent coaches run east to Rethymno and beyond. The bus is the cheapest option but not door to door, so allow time to change. To reach the quieter west-coast beaches, compare a hire car.
