Koufonisia Beaches: Finikas to Pori
Koufonisia keeps its best beaches on the east coast of Pano Koufonisi, and the further east you walk the better they get. A single coastal path runs from the Chora past Finikas, Charokopou, Fanos and Italida to Pori, the marquee beach in a protected bay. The beaches are all reached on foot, small sand coves fill the gaps between them, and Punta Platia and Pori double as naturist beaches. The port itself has two town beaches at either end.

The port beaches: Megali Ammos and Loutro
The village and port of Megali Ammos has 2 town beaches. The main beach lies beside the harbour where the ferries dock and is fine for sunning and swimming. Next to it, Loutro beach is not suited to swimming: a caique repair yard sits in the bay, the shore is covered with large uncomfortable stones, and there are plants in the water. With so many better beaches on the island, most visitors walk on.
Parianos
Parianos beach lies west of the port, along the path that continues past Loutro. It is not one of the island's better beaches, with seaweed and plants in the water, and it is not very clean. The good beaches all lie to the east.
Finikas
Finikas is the first good beach east of the Chora, only a 15-minute walk away. It is a really small sandy beach but extremely beautiful, and it is a textile beach popular with families. Finikas sits so close to Charokopou that where one beach ends the other begins, and it opens the row of good beaches along the east coast.
Charokopou
Charokopou (also written Harokopou) is the next beach east, surrounded by trees and greenery. A taverna stands on the beach, there is some accommodation, and the island's campsite is nearby, which makes it a favourite with families. This is the last place to buy water and food, because past this point there are no more tavernas along the coast path.
Fanos and Italida
Fanos beach lies a little east of Charokopou. It is a sandy textile beach and a favourite with a younger crowd who come for swimming and sea sports, with several smaller coves for those who want more privacy. Beyond it, Italida is a turquoise sandy beach on the run east towards Pori, within a short walk of the beaches on either side.
Punta Platia
Punta Platia (also called Platia Pounda) is the first of the naturist beaches, a beautiful stretch that is part textile and part nudist. From here the path continues east towards Pori, passing more beautiful small sea-cave beaches set into the low cliffs.
Pori
Pori is easily the best beach on Koufonisia and the last on the east-coast path. Set in a protected bay, it is a large sandy beach with dunes behind it, part textile and a favourite with naturists. Reaching it is a walk of a couple of kilometres from the Chora, past the string of smaller beaches and sea caves, and it rewards the effort with the widest and finest sand on the island.
