Andros Hotels & Villas: Where to Stay

Most beds on Andros are in Batsi, in studios and apartments, with more hotels in the neoclassical Chora and self-catering villas scattered at quieter beaches such as Achla and Zorkos. Batsi holds the largest sandy beach, the widest choice of tavernas and two small supermarkets; the Chora suits a base in town near the museums; and the villas suit travellers who want privacy by an empty beach. Popular places are small and fill quickly in July and August, so book early. This guide covers the places you can reserve directly.

Blue Dolphin Hotel, Batsi

The Blue Dolphin is a small hotel of just 7 rooms in Batsi, with one of the best views in the resort and a homely, quiet atmosphere. The Blue Flag beach of Batsi is only 150 to 200 metres away and the town centre about 400 metres. Guests are welcomed with a complimentary drink and can enjoy the sea view from the garden. Villa Rena, Batsi

Villa Rena is a complex of 12 luxury apartments in Batsi, overlooking the bay, with a private swimming pool, a poolside bar and lush gardens. Rena decorated all the rooms in her own cosy style, and the reception doubles as a small gallery of her paintings. Each air-conditioned apartment has a kitchenette, free Wi-Fi, a balcony with views over the Aegean, a TV, an iron and a safe, and a private bathroom with a hair dryer. The centre of Batsi is 200 metres away and the nearest beach 300 metres, with the main town of Andros a 30-minute drive.

Nora Norita Studios, Batsi

Nora Norita is a set of 14 studios on the bay of Batsi, right in front of Kolona sandy beach and 60 metres from it, each sleeping two to three people with a balcony over the beach and the bay. Every studio is air-conditioned with a private bath, a kitchen with a fridge and utensils, a TV, heating and a spacious sea-view balcony. It sits 150 metres from restaurants, a minimarket and the bus station, a 15-minute walk from the town centre, and the owners can arrange car rental. The surrounding hills offer good walking.

Chrissy Akti Hotel, Batsi

The Chrissy Akti Hotel stands in the centre of Batsi, overlooking the coast just by the town's main beach, within walking distance of the shops, cafes and restaurants. Recently renovated with a modern interior and a swimming pool, it is easily reached by taxi or bus from the port, and the bus stops right outside on request. Rooms have a balcony with a side sea view, air conditioning, satellite TV, a direct phone line, a fridge, a private bathroom with a hair dryer and daily maid service.

Hotels in Andros Chora

Andros Chora suits a base in the neoclassical capital, within walking distance of the museums, the marble-paved main street and the town beaches of Nemborio and Paraporti. The hotels here sit in mansions and newer buildings around the old centre, which is closed to cars.

Egli Hotel

The Egli Hotel occupies a neoclassical mansion in the centre of Andros Chora, with traditionally furnished rooms and balconies, free Wi-Fi and free parking. It offers single, double and triple rooms, each air-conditioned with an LCD TV and satellite channels. It is a comfortable, stylish yet affordable base within walking distance of the town's attractions and restaurants, and it earns very good guest reviews.

Rastoni Apartments

Rastoni Apartments stand among greenery and mountains in the traditional Anemomiloi area of Andros Chora, close to the sea. The newly built apartments are well equipped, with air conditioning, satellite TV and a wired internet connection, and are available for two or three adults. The beaches of Yialia, Piso Yialia and Nimporio, and a supermarket, are all a short walk away.

Iro Suites

Iro Suites offer a comfortable base in Andros Chora for exploring the capital, its museums and its town beaches. The suites suit travellers who want to stay in the heart of the old town rather than by the resort beaches of Batsi.

Villas & self-catering

Andros rewards a self-catering stay by an empty beach. Away from Batsi, cottages, villas and beachfront hotels sit above the quiet coves of the east and north, built in the Cycladic style with local stone and wood. The three below let you wake up by the sea with your own kitchen and space.

Aneroussa Beach Hotel, Delavoyas

The beachfront Aneroussa Beach Hotel stands 800 metres from Batsi, in an area of exceptional natural beauty, looking over two sandy beaches including the naturist cove of Delavoyas. Its cosy, traditionally decorated rooms are air-conditioned, with balconies facing the sea, a TV and a fridge. The bar serves breakfast, salads and drinks from morning until late, and a beach bar sells ice creams and cold drinks. The beach below appears in the Andros beaches guide.

Onar cottages and villas, Achla

Onar is a complex of independent stone-and-wood cottages and villas 350 metres from the pebbled Achla Beach on the east coast, built in the Cycladic style among plane trees. Each unit has a kitchen or kitchenette and a living area with a fireplace, a flat-screen TV and a DVD player. The on-site restaurant cooks traditional Andros recipes from seasonal organic produce, fresh fish and local dairy at a large monastery table. The area suits diving, hiking and yoga; Gavrio port is 35 km away and Andros Town 25 km, with free private parking.

Aegea Blue Villas Suites, Zorkos

Aegea Blue is a complex of suites and villas set on a hillside in Zorgos overlooking the river and the sea in the north of Andros, combining elegant and traditional features around a 21-metre pool, an a la carte Mediterranean restaurant and an all-day pool bar. Each unit has a kitchen with a stove, fridge and dining area, a 32-inch LCD TV, and a stone-paved terrace with sun beds facing the sea or the gardens. Gavrio is 17 km away, Batsi 25 km and Andros Town 50 km, with free Wi-Fi and parking.

Choosing an area

Where to stay on Andros depends on the holiday you want. Batsi puts you on the island's largest sandy beach with the widest choice of studios, tavernas and bars, and the easiest transport from the port. Andros Chora suits a base in the neoclassical town, near the museums and the marble main street, though it is away from the resort beaches. The villas and beachfront hotels at Achla, Zorkos and the naturist cove of Delavoyas suit travellers who want privacy by an empty beach. A car helps wherever you stay, since the best beaches lie far apart, and the port at Gavrio has several car-rental offices.
