It offers 33 clean, spacious rooms for two, three or four people, all with television, air conditioning, a refrigerator and a sea view, plus a breakfast buffet, a dining room and veranda, and a pool with sunbeds. It stands about 14 kilometres from Thassos Town (Limenas) and about 30 kilometres from the port of Skala Prinos, reached by a short ferry from Kavala, Keramoti or Peramos.

It has 28 rooms, all with air conditioning, a refrigerator, a television and a private bathroom with shower and toilet, and a fantastic view over the bay of Pefkari. Breakfast is served on request and half-board with a la carte meals is an option, parking is available next to the hotel, and a garden with chairs and tables borders the beach for a quiet place to relax.
Hotel Maria, Golden Beach
Hotel Maria stands amid a large olive grove at Golden Beach. It consists of a suite, five three-bedroom apartments and four two-bedroom apartments, all with fully equipped kitchens and bathrooms, satellite television and air conditioning throughout. It suits families and self-catering stays near the sand at Golden Beach.
Mathios Cottages, Psili Amos
Mathios Cottages stand directly above the sandy beach of Psili Amos, 5 kilometres south of the small town of Potos, with two cottages: one of two rooms for 6 to 7 people, the other of one room for 3 people. Both have a bathroom, a kitchen, air conditioning and television, and a terrace looking over the sea. The beach is about 150 metres away, there is a direct bus on the island's main road, and the owner Dimitrios also rents cheap apartments and studios in an olive grove at Astris.
Studios Niki, Paradise Beach
Niki Studios and Apartments stands at Paradise Beach, one of the longest sandy beaches on Thassos. The studios sleep 2 to 3 people and the apartments up to 5, and all have a small kitchenette, a refrigerator, a coffee machine, satellite television, air conditioning, a private bathroom and either a balcony or veranda. Every balcony and veranda looks over Paradise Beach and the Aegean Sea.
Agatha Studios, Paradise Beach
Agatha Studios and Apartments sit in a very quiet area just 300 metres from the sands of Paradise Beach. Each unit has air conditioning, television, a refrigerator, a kitchenette, a water boiler, a coffee maker, a balcony and a private bathroom. A mini market, snack bar, beach bar and restaurant stand a short distance away.
Villas & self-catering
Thassos keeps most of its self-catering rooms in studios, apartments and small villas around the coast rather than in large estates. Villa Anais and Sirines Studios sit in the green north-west near Skala Prinos, Studios Plaka and Studios Anny stand on the coast at Skala Kallirachis, Amfitriti Studios line the shore at Skala Sotiros, and Smaragdi Apartments look down from the mountain village of Sotiras. The options below are all self-catering.

Villa Anais is a small hotel of 10 rooms with breakfast, a garden with a terrace and lounge chairs, a 50-metre walk from the beach at Dassilio Prinos. It is run by Betty, Theo and their daughter Mariska, who fell in love with the hotel and with the island and its people. The setting is quiet and suits travellers, hikers and anyone wanting peace, with many restaurants nearby and the harbour within walking distance for the boat to Kavala on the mainland.

There are five rooms for up to four people and two fully equipped studios, all recently renovated, with an equipped kitchen, a bathroom, television, air conditioning, a hairdryer, a washing machine and a sea-view balcony. Amfitriti Studios group 12 rooms and apartments a few metres from the sea at Skala Sotiros, with 9 luxurious rooms for 2 to 4 people of 30 m2 and 3 apartments of 60 m2. Smaragdi Apartments stand 500 metres above sea level in the mountain village of Sotiras, self-catering maisonettes of 42 to 65 m2 for 3 or 4 people, each with a fireplace and views of the sea and mountains.
Choosing an area
Where to stay on Thassos depends on the kind of holiday you want. Limenas (Thassos Town) suits a base near the shops, tavernas and ancient sites, with hotels such as Pegasus 500 metres from the port. Golden Beach at Skala Panagia and Skala Potamia puts you on the sandiest east-coast beach, with Hotel Dionysos and Hotel Maria. Paradise Beach, Potos and Psili Amos hold the southern sands, with Studios Niki, Agatha Studios and Mathios Cottages. Pefkari and Limenaria are the south-west resorts, with Hotel Akti by the water. The north-west coast around Skala Prinos, Skala Kallirachis and Sotiros keeps quieter, greener rooms. Wherever you stay, the beaches lie far apart, so a car helps, and the whole island is set out in the Thassos island guide.
