Thassos Restaurants: Where to Eat, Area by Area
Thassos serves its best food along the harbours and beaches, led by the waterfront tavernas of Limenas and the beach resorts of the south. The town beach of Limenas lines up tavernas and fish restaurants by the old harbour, Potos and Pefkari feed the crowd on the southern sands, Aliki cooks by its double bay, and the mountain villages keep quieter family tavernas. Limenas (Thassos Town)
Limenas keeps most of the island's dining along its waterfront. The activity runs from the ferry quay past the ancient harbour, where the excursion boats tie up, to the town beach, and it is here, by the old harbour and the beach, that the tavernas and fish restaurants gather. It is the best base for a fish dinner by the water, close to the ancient agora described in the Thassos sights guide.
Golden Beach, Skala Panagia & Potamia
Golden Beach, between the resorts of Skala Panagia and Skala Potamia on the east coast, is one of the most popular places to eat near the sand. Skala Panagia offers many restaurants, cafe-bars and shops, and the beach tavernas serve the crowd on Chrissi Amoudia through the day. It suits a relaxed meal after a swim, a short drive from the mountain villages of Panagia and Potamia.
Potos, Pefkari & the south
Potos is a lively resort in the south of the island, 34 kilometres from the capital, with restaurants, tavernas and bars along its 2-kilometre beach. Nearby Pefkari adds more restaurants, tavernas and bars behind its pine-backed sands, and Psili Amos and Astris keep small beach tavernas by the water. This is the busiest area for eating out on the southern coast.
Aliki and the east coast
Aliki, on its peninsula in the south-east, is a touristic village with a good choice of bars and tavernas set between its two small beaches, and it pairs a meal with the ancient marble quarries above the bay. Along the east coast, Kinira keeps quiet tavernas near Paradise Beach, so the coast between Aliki and Golden Beach suits a slower, scenic lunch.
The mountain villages
The inland villages of Thassos serve quieter, more traditional food than the beach resorts. Panagia and Potamia, in the hills above Golden Beach, and Theologos, the medieval capital reached by road from Potos, keep family tavernas in their squares, away from the coastal crowds. Sotiras, set 500 metres above the sea on the west side, adds village-square tavernas with mountain and sea views.
Skala Prinos and the north-west
The north-west coast around Skala Prinos, the main ferry port, keeps tavernas by its beach and harbour, and Skala Rachoni and Skala Kallirachis add more rooms-and-tavernas stops along the shore. This quieter coast suits a simple meal near the boat to Kavala, covered in the Thassos island guide.
