Yes, a car is the best way to see Lesbos. Lesbos is one of Greece's largest islands, with long distances between Mytilene, Molyvos and the west. Buses link the main towns, but they run to their own timetable and skip the quiet corners.

Where to pick up a car on Lesbos
You can collect a car at Mytilene (MJT) and at the Mytilene port, and many agencies also deliver to your hotel. Book ahead for July and August, when fleets sell out and the walk-up desks run short.

Driving on Lesbos
Lesbos driving is on the right, like the rest of Greece, and the roads are narrow and winding rather than fast. It is a long drive from Mytilene to Molyvos and the petrified forest in the west, so a car saves hours. A smaller car is the easier choice for tight village streets and steep gradients.
