Afitos Beach, Halkidiki: The Village and Where to Stay
Afitos is a traditional village on the north-east of the Kassandra peninsula in Halkidiki, built on a 75-metre cliff called the balcony of Kassandra, with the sandy Aristoteles beach about 500 metres below. Stone houses, narrow streets and the 1858 church of St. Demetrius on the square give Afitos its character, while the shallow beach makes it a popular choice for families, above all with Greek visitors.

Afitos village
Afitos, also spelled Afytos or Athitos, is a traditional village on the north-east of the Kassandra peninsula, popular above all with Greek visitors. It dates from the early 19th century, and its architecture is authentic: small houses of natural stone, narrow streets and almost no high-rise, with new houses built in the old style. On the village square stands the church of St. Demetrius, built in 1858, the only domed basilica on the Halkidiki peninsula, surrounded by bars and restaurants. The village sits high on a 75-metre cliff with beautiful views over the bay, which is why it is called "the balcony of Kassandra". Within walking distance is the village of Nea Fokea, with a well-preserved Byzantine tower and a castle, and Kallithea lies 3 kilometers to the south.
Aristoteles beach
Aristoteles beach, the sandy beach of Afitos, lies about 500 metres below the village, reached by a steep road and some stairs. You can rent sunbeds and umbrellas, and there are watersports. The beach is shallow, so it suits families with small children. Inside the village and near the beach there is a good choice of accommodation, along with several shops and a couple of supermarkets.
