The beaches of Molos and Magazia on the island of Skyros in Greece
Molos and Magazia are two villages with a beautiful sandy beach and mostly newly build houses. From some places in Skyros Chora there is a spectacular view over this area. Molos and Magazia beach are situated not far north of Chora on the east side of the island of Skyros. They both are quite long and wide and consist mainly of coarse sand. It is easy to get into the sea here. Magazia beach is the closest to the Chora, Molos beach is more north a bit further down the road. The long stretch of beach is divided into two by a river, where ducks and turtles have their habitat. The distance to the capital Skyros Chora is about 4 kilometers. Around Molos beach and Magazia beach you find most accommodations of the island and there are plenty of restaurants to choose from (in May 2018 when we were there much was still closed but there were a few taverns already open). They are also the only beaches with a bus connection from Chora. Molos and Magazia have organised beaches where you can rent a sun bed and an umbrella (on Magazia also in May). To get to the other beaches of Skyros it's helpful to have your own transport (there is is bus connection with the port of Linaria though, and thus the beach of Acherounes - a ten minutes walk from Linaria - can also be reached by public transport).
At the end of the beach of Molos are the remains of an old watchtower and there is a small harbour with a couple of wooden fishing boats. There are small and sandy coves. A little further begins the beach of Pouria, with its old stone quarry and the church of Agios Nikoloas, which is carved out into the rocks.
Juicy Beach Bar is located on the beach of Magazia. It is a rather large and modern eatery where trendy music is played and also a gathering place for the local youth. Juicy Beach Bar also offers beach chairs and umbrellas. We order the omelette, the Greek salad and half a liter of white wine. The food is as you expect in a commercial place, a little standard tourist food and no culinary delights. The service is very friendly though.
