Sarti, Sithonia: The Beach and Where to Stay
Sarti is a coastal village on the south-east side of the Sithonia peninsula in Halkidiki, 140 kilometers from Thessaloniki, with a white-sand beach 2.5 kilometers long and a clear view of the Athos peninsula. The main beach and the smaller bays nearby, backed by extensive forest, have made Sarti one of the main holiday destinations in Sithonia, with mostly small, family-run places to stay.

Sarti, Sithonia
Sarti is a coastal village on the south-east side of the Sithonia peninsula, 140 kilometers from Thessaloniki. It takes its name from the ancient city of Sarte, which stood in this area in the classical period; remnants of a fortification and of the old town survive to the south, towards Sykia, 10 kilometers away. Why the old town was abandoned is unknown. Modern Sarti grew from around 1922, when immigrants from Asia Minor settled here after the Turkish-Greek war. Today it is one of the main holiday destinations in Sithonia, with a beautiful view of the Athos peninsula, plenty of restaurants and all the amenities of a tourist resort. The accommodation is varied and mostly small and family-run, and there is a campsite in the village.
The beach and things to do
Sarti's main beach runs 2.5 kilometers along the bay, with white sand, green-blue water and an extensive forest behind it. You can rent sunbeds and umbrellas, and there is water skiing and windsurfing. Several smaller bays lie nearby, most with their own small beaches. The area suits walking: you can climb Itanos mountain or follow the coast to explore the coves, shaded by the many trees. Excursion boats also sail from Sarti around the Athos peninsula, giving a good view of some of the monasteries there.
