Ammouliani Beaches, Greece: A Guide to Every Beach on Amoliani (Ammouliani)

Amoliani (Ammouliani) beaches, Halkidiki, Greece
Amoliani (Ammouliani), Halkidiki, Greece

Ammouliani beaches are small sandy bays on a 500-person island off the Halkidiki coast, between Mount Athos and Sithonia, with Alykes the most popular and the offshore Drenia islets reached by kaiki. Ammouliani is the only inhabited island of Central Macedonia, and it stays fairly unspoilt because it sits off the main ferry routes. The beaches ring the small island, from the organised sands of Alykes and Agios Georgios to quiet, facility-free coves in the north. You reach Ammouliani by the short ferry from Tripiti, on the mainland. For the wider island see the Amoliani island guide.

Alykes Beach

Alykes is the most popular beach on Ammouliani. It lies in the west of the island, southwest of the capital, and is a beautiful sandy beach where the water is easy to walk into, so it suits families with small children. Beach bars along Alykes rent out parasols and sunbeds to visitors. Alykes sits close to the Alykes lake, the lake to which the island owes its name.

Kalopigado Beach

Kalopigado is a small beach between Alykes and Karagatsia, on the west side of Ammouliani.

Karagatsia Beach

Karagatsia Beach, also called Ftelies, lies in a small bay on the west side of Ammouliani. It is about 2 kilometers from the capital. A small cantina on the beach serves drinks.

Agios Georgios Beach

Agios Georgios is an organised sandy beach in the south of Ammouliani, one mile from the main town. It takes its name from a church that stands at the beach. A taverna serves food and drinks, and the beach-bar operator rents out sunbeds and parasols.

Megali Ammos Beach

Megali Ammos is a popular beach on the east side of Ammouliani, just behind Agios Georgios Beach. It is a sandy beach with coarse sand, and it has several facilities: parasols and sunbeds for rent and a tavern near the beach. From here you look out over the Drenia islets and the mountains of the Mount Athos peninsula.

Faka Beach

Faka Beach lies northwest of Amoliani village, with no tavern, umbrellas or sunbeds. It is a good spot for fishing.

Moussiou Beach

Moussiou Beach is a small, sheltered cove just northwest of Amoliani village, quiet and out of the wind, with shade under the pines and no facilities. It is one of Ammouliani's least-known beaches.

Tsaska Beach

Tsaska Beach is a quiet little beach in the north of the island. The last stretch is a walk along a path; there are no sunbeds, umbrellas or tavern, but you find shade under the trees.

The Drenia islets

The Drenia islets lie south of Ammouliani and have lovely sandy beaches. They comprise Agios Nikolaos, Elijah, Pontiki, Nikita and Spermeno Palarma, and are also called Gaidouronissia, which means donkey island. You reach them only by kaiki, the traditional wooden boat.
