Damnoni Beach, Crete: The Sandy Bay near Plakias

Damnoni Beach

Damnoni is a long, stretched sandy beach on the south coast of Crete, 6 kilometres east of Plakias and 33 kilometres south of Rethymnon, between Preveli and Plakias. Part of the beach has umbrellas and sunbeds, and part is left natural. The landscape behind is dominated by the large Hapimag time-share hotel and, behind it, the Damnoni Beach Hotel. A couple of restaurants stand near the sand.

Akti Damnoni

Akti Damnoni stands 20 metres from the sandy beach at Damnoni, 33 kilometres south of Rethymnon between Preveli and Plakias. It has a sea-view terrace and a restaurant serving traditional Cretan cuisine. The air-conditioned rooms are spacious, with a fridge and coffee maker, and free Wi-Fi throughout. An on-site shop sells handmade local embroidery and silverware, and free parking is available.

Mythos Apartments

Mythos Apartments is a family-run property 50 metres from Damnoni beach, 1 kilometre from Plakias centre and 30 kilometres from the port of Rethymnon. The air-conditioned, self-catering units have a furnished balcony, a dining table and a sofa, with a kitchenette that includes a fridge, sandwich maker, coffee maker and kettle. An all-day seaside restaurant serves meals with sea views, and the beaches of Plakias, Souda and Preveli are within a 5-minute drive.
