Elounda, on the Bay of Mirabello opposite the fortress island of Spinalonga, is the villa heartland of eastern Crete, a resort of hillside houses with private pools and sea views. Most rental villas in the Lasithi region cluster around Elounda and the village of Mavrikiano above it, with a few quiet options further south near Myrtos. Elounda Solfez Villas
The Elounda Solfez villas stand on a hillside above the Bay of Elounda, with wide views over the water and the Spinalonga peninsula. Each villa has a private pool and a terrace looking out to sea, and on a clear day you can pick out small islands in the distance. Inside, a spacious living room with satellite TV and a full kitchen with dishwasher spread over two floors. The manager, Nikolas, lives on site and greets guests, and I have stayed here happily across several visits.
Elounda Traditional Homes
Elounda Traditional Homes are private holiday houses in the peaceful village of Mavrikiano, a 10-minute drive from the centre of Elounda. They combine rustic stone features with private gardens and Jacuzzi bathtubs. Most of the houses have a private swimming pool or share one with a neighbouring house. Clean linen and cooking utensils are provided, so the houses are ready for self-catering stays.
Villa Lambros, Tertsa
Villa Lambros is a small apartment building in the quiet village of Tertsa, near Myrtos on the south coast. Tertsa has about 70 residents and a large sandy beach with sunbeds, flanked by quieter beaches good for naturism. The village is very small and peaceful, set back from the busier resorts. It is run by Dick and Siemon, who also run Villa Mertiza in nearby Myrtos.
