Platis Gialos, Mykonos: The Beach and Where to Stay
Platis Gialos is a long sandy family beach in a half-moon bay on the south of Mykonos, 3.5 kilometers from Mykonos Town (Chora), with parasols, sunbeds, watersports and boats to the southern beaches. A bus runs to Mykonos Town every half hour until late and taxis are cheap, so Platis Gialos suits people who want to sleep by the beach yet still go out in town in the evening.

Platis Gialos beach
Platis Gialos is a small village and beach in a beautiful half-moon bay, 3 kilometers from the main town of Mykonos (Chora). The long stretch of sand has no pebbles, and the beach comes with parasols and sunbeds. Several luxury hotels back the bay, along with minimarkets and a good choice of restaurants, from a very good Italian and several Greek tavernas to cheap souvlaki takeaways. You can rent a jetski or go waterskiing. A bus connects Platis Gialos with Mykonos Town every half hour until late in the night, and the ride takes 8 minutes; taxis are cheap. Platis Gialos is also where the kaikis leave for other beaches such as Paradise and Elia.
Getting around and nearby beaches
From Platis Gialos a coastal path leads past a small beach to Paranga and Agia Anna, and on to Paradise and Super Paradise; the other way lie Psarou and Ornos. Psarou is 500 metres towards Chora, down some stairs, while Paranga is a pleasant 20-to-30-minute walk along the coast, with a quiet little beach midway. The village has a car and moped rental. There is no bank yet, so to withdraw money you go to Mykonos Chora, where the island's post office stands near the bus station. Mykonos Town is 3.5 kilometers away, with a bus every half hour into the evening and cheap taxis.
