Chalki Beaches: Pontamos, Ftenagia, Kania & Areta
Chalki has a handful of small beaches, all within walking distance of Nimborio. Pontamos is the main beach and the only sandy one. Ftenagia is the nearest pebble cove, and Kania, Areta, Trachia and Yiali stay quiet and mostly unorganised, so bring water and shade.

Pontamos
Pontamos is the main beach of Chalki and the only sandy one. It lies in the south-east of the island near Nimborio, about a 10-minute walk from the village. Sunbeds and parasols are for rent and a taverna stands on the beach. The bay is shallow and the water is easy to wade into, so it suits families with small children.
Ftenagia
Ftenagia is a pebble beach on the far side of Nimborio, about 15 minutes' walk away. It is the most popular beach on Chalki after Pontamos. You reach it by a path along the rocky coast or by the road that runs from the windmills, and the trail is signposted. A taverna on the beach rents out sunbeds and parasols.
Trachia
Trachia is a peninsula west of Pontamos with a small beach on each side. Both coves stay very quiet and sit sheltered out of the wind most of the time. The water is clear and good for snorkelling. The walk from Chorio takes about 20 minutes.
Yiali
Yiali is a small beach of white pebbles on the south side of Chalki, and its name means white pebble. You reach it by a winding path from Chorio, about a 30-minute walk. There are no sunbeds or parasols, though the high cliffs give some shade. The beach can catch wind and a strong current.
Kania
Kania is a pebble beach on the east side of Chalki, about 25 minutes' walk from Nimborio. It has no sunbeds, parasols or taverna. A little vegetation around the shore gives light shade, so bring water when you visit.
Areta
Areta is a quiet beach on the north side of Chalki. It is a good spot for snorkelling.
