Serifos Restaurants: Where to Eat in Livadi & Around the Island

Serifos serves most of its food in Livadi, the port, where tavernas, restaurants, bars and seaside cafes line the beach and the harbour. Away from Livadi the choice thins out to a couple of tavernas behind Psili Amos and a few beach tavernas in the south-west, so this guide sets out where to eat by area and where to plan ahead. Hire a car to explore Serifos at your own pace, covered in our Serifos car hire guide.

Livadi and the port

Livadi is the main place to eat on Serifos. The port holds most of the island's tavernas, restaurants and bars, with seaside cafes strung along Livadi beach and terraces around the harbour where the ferries dock. Because Livadi keeps the island's main facilities, from a bank and a supermarket to its few nightspots, it offers the widest choice of tables, and it sits within walking distance of most of the accommodation. It is the natural place to eat for anyone staying near the port, as set out in the Serifos hotels & villas guide.

On the beaches

Beach tavernas on Serifos are few, so it pays to plan a beach day around them. Psili Amos, an hour's walk from Livadi and one of the finest beaches in Greece, has a couple of tavernas and trees for shade. Platis Gialos, 12 kilometers north over a rough road, has a taverna where you can get a drink or something to eat. Most other beaches, including the quiet naturist cove of Karavi, have little or nothing in the way of facilities, so bring your own water and a picnic. The beaches are described in the Serifos beaches guide.

Megalo Livadi & the south-west

The south-west coast keeps a scatter of beach tavernas that suit a lunch on a driving day. Megalo Livadi, the old mining village in front of a sheltered, tree-lined beach, has tavernas by the sand. Vagia beach, 9 kilometers south-west of Livadi, and nearby Koutalas also have tavernas, though these cannot always be relied on out of season. These coves lie down rough roads with a final stretch on foot, so check that a taverna is open before you set out, and carry water either way. The area is covered in the Serifos sights guide, which reaches the same corner of the island.
