Accommodation on Sithonia is mostly small and family-run, in hotels, studios, apartments and villas around the wooded coast, with the largest resorts at Neos Marmaras and the five-star Porto Carras. Neos Marmaras & Porto Carras
Neos Marmaras, the largest town on Sithonia, has the widest range of places to stay, from large hotels to small studios, most near the town beach on the west coast. Just south stands Porto Carras, one of the largest five-star resorts in Greece, with several hotels, restaurants and pools, a spa, a golf course and the largest private marina in northern Greece. For a self-catering stay in the town, George & Sia's House offers air-conditioned studios a short walk from Paradeisos beach, with sea views over the Toroneos Gulf, a flowered garden and free beach umbrellas, five minutes on foot from the centre.
Vourvourou & Ormos Panagias
The north-east coast keeps quiet, family-friendly rooms right on the shallow beaches. At Vourvourou, the family-run Vourvourou Hotel sits on Vourvourou beach with a seafront deck, free sun loungers and boats to secluded beaches nearby; Livari Studios and Vrahos House Apartments stand on the beachfront at Livari; and Anna Karra and Zinozis Beach Apartments line the sand with sea-view balconies. At Ormos Panagias, the Antigoni Beach Resort stands on Trani Ammouda beach with a spa, a pool and a beach bar and rooms over the Singitic Gulf.
Sarti
Sarti, on the east coast, keeps mostly small, family-run studios and apartments a short walk from its 2.5-kilometre beach, plus a campsite in the village. Hotel Agni On The Beach stands 20 metres from the sand with furnished balconies, a snack bar and a roof-garden BBQ; Erifili at Sarti Beach is 50 metres from the beach with homemade breakfast; and Villa Doxa and Villa Irida offer garden studios 100 to 150 metres back, both with children's playgrounds.
Toroni & Porto Koufo
The south-west holds the long beach of Toroni and the sheltered harbour of Porto Koufo. At Toroni, Akti Toroni sits right on the sandy beach, Haus Risos has a large pool 500 metres from the sea with a restaurant and pool bar, and Villa Maria and Villa Isabella stand a short walk from the sand with sea-view terraces. At Porto Koufo, Hotel Porto Koufo is a 3-star hotel steps from the beachfront with sea-view rooms and a garden bar, and the seafront Studios Meliton stand 15 metres from the beach.
Villas & self-catering
Most of Sithonia's self-catering rooms are in studios, apartments and small villas near the beaches rather than in large estates, many with equipped kitchens, sea-view balconies and gardens.
Vourvourou villas & apartments
Vourvourou keeps a cluster of self-catering places among the pines. Ta Petrina are stone-built apartments of one or two bedrooms with a shared pool and children's pool, 200 metres from the beach; Fillis House stands in a 6,000 m2 garden of olive and pine trees a three-minute walk from the sand; and Thalassokipos is built amphitheatrically on a hillside with panoramic views over the small islands. Archontariki Villa Kampoukos sits 500 metres from Karidi beach, and the beachfront Villa Laguna has a garden with palm trees and a fireplace.
Toroni & Sarti self-catering
On the south-west coast, Villa Isabella at Toroni is a two-bedroom cottage 150 metres from the beach with a garden, playground and BBQ, and Villa Maria stands 70 metres from the sand with a sea-view terrace. The northern approach
The central Halkidiki coast that leads onto Sithonia adds more self-catering rooms. At Metamorfosi, Maik Apartments, Amari Hotel and Loxandra Studios stand a short walk from the blue-flag beach. Gerakini keeps Kostas House, the Alkinoos Beach Hotel and Maistrali Beach Studios on or near its long sands. Choosing an area
Where to stay on Sithonia depends on the holiday you want. Neos Marmaras and Porto Carras suit a lively base with the most restaurants and the biggest resorts on the west coast. Vourvourou and Ormos Panagias in the north-east keep the calmest, shallowest beaches, best for families. Sarti on the east coast offers small, family-run rooms with a view of Mount Athos, and Toroni and Porto Koufo in the south-west pair a long sandy beach with a sheltered harbour.
