Aegialis Hotel & Spa, Egiali
The Aegialis Hotel & Spa stands on the hill above the village of Egiali, within walking distance of the beach of Egiali and the naturist beach of Levressos. The view is magnificent, over the Bay of Egiali, the sea and the surrounding islands. The port is 1 kilometre away and a bus stop is in front of the hotel. It has a large swimming pool, a fitness space, a restaurant, a pool bar and a spa and beauty centre, with different types of rooms and suites. It is the choice for a full-service base on the quieter Aegiali side.
Poseidon Studios, Aegiali
The Cycladic-style Poseidon Studios are in Aegiali village, 250 metres from the beach and 150 metres from the port, with self-catered studios opening onto a communal courtyard and free Wi-Fi throughout. Each air-conditioned studio has a kitchenette with a mini fridge, cooking hobs and kettle, plus a TV and hairdryer. Tavernas and mini-markets are 100 metres away, the 24-hour front desk can advise on local trips, the scenic Chora is 15 kilometres off, and the main port of Katapola is around 22 kilometres away.
Villa Katapoliani, Katapola
Villa Katapoliani 1 sits in the heart of Katapola, 50 metres from the port and 150 metres from the beach of Kato Akrotiri, with traditionally furnished en-suite rooms and studios, each with a private balcony and garden view, hairdryer, refrigerator, TV and air conditioning, and some with a kitchen. It has a relaxing roof garden overlooking the port and free transfer to and from the port. Michail Studios are in the Chora, the snow-white capital of the island with its windmills, imposing castle, numerous churches and picturesque paved streets. The newly built house of traditional architecture holds studios and twin-bed rooms, all with a bathroom, kitchenette, TV and veranda, decorated with good taste, and some with air conditioning. It is the pick for staying up in the Chora itself rather than at the ports, a short walk from the stairs down to the Hozoviotissa monastery.

A few more studios and small hotels round out the island. Anna Studios offers Cycladic-style studios with kitchenettes about 100 metres from Katapola port, with sea views from the rooms and from a large garden, and free parking nearby. Choosing an area
Where to stay on Amorgos depends on the holiday you want. Katapola, the main port on the sheltered west side, is the busiest and most convenient base, with the most tavernas and boats to the fine beaches of Maltezi and Agios Panteleimon. Aegiali, in the north-east, is quieter and sits by the island's best organised sandy beach, close to the naturist beach of Levressos and the hill villages of Langada and Tholaria. The Chora, high between the two, suits travellers who want the whitewashed capital and the walk down to the Hozoviotissa monastery.
