Amorgos Restaurants: Where to Eat, by Area
Amorgos serves its best food on the waterfronts of Katapola and Aegiali and in the lanes of the hilltop Chora. The island is small and its tavernas cluster in a handful of places rather than a single restaurant strip, so this guide points you area by area — the two ports, the Chora, and the quiet hill villages of Langada and Tholaria above the Aegiali bay. Katapola waterfront
Katapola holds the widest choice of tavernas on Amorgos, along its sheltered quay on the west side of the island. As the main port and the most populated part of the island, it keeps most of the restaurants and cafes, and the tables spread along the harbour front where the ferries and fishing boats tie up. Aegiali harbour
Aegiali, the smaller and more picturesque of the two ports, keeps its tavernas around the harbour and behind its long sandy beach in the north-east. It is a quieter place to eat than Katapola, close to the island's best beach and to the naturist beach of Levressos, and it suits an evening after a day on the sand. The Chora
The Chora, the hilltop capital between the two ports, holds family tavernas and cafes tucked into its small squares and narrow lanes. Almost free of traffic, it is a place to eat in the evening among the white houses, windmills and churches, a short walk from the castle and from the stairs down to the Hozoviotissa monastery. Langada and Tholaria
Langada and Tholaria, the two traditional villages on the hills above the Aegiali bay, keep quiet tavernas with wide views over the sea. They are whitewashed hillside villages linked to Aegiali and to each other by old stone footpaths, and their tables suit walkers coming off the trails or anyone after a calmer evening above the coast.
