Villas & self-catering

Choosing an area
Where to stay on Astypalaia depends on the holiday you want. The Chora and its port of Pera Gialos put you by the castle, the museum, the harbour tavernas and the town beach, joined by stairs — choose Kilindra or Andromeda up in the Chora, or Akti and Aphrodite down at Pera Gialos. Livadi, over the hill, is the main tourist centre on the best beach of the island, with Maganas and the Mouras studios and apartments. Maltezana (Analipsi), 9 kilometres east near the airport, is the quieter beach base, with the Maltezana, Castellano and Castillio hotels. Wherever you stay, many island roads are dirt tracks and the beaches lie far apart, so a car or moped helps; the whole island is set out on the Astypalaia island guide.
