Sikinos Restaurants: Where to Eat, by Area

Sikinos has only a couple of tavernas, most of them at the port of Alopronia along the harbour and behind the beach, with a few more kitchens up in the hill villages of Kastro and Chora. This is a small, quiet island with few facilities aimed at tourists, so dining is simple and unhurried rather than a restaurant strip. This guide points you area by area — the port, and the two upper villages.

Alopronia harbour and beach

Alopronia, the island's port, holds most of the tavernas on Sikinos. They sit along the harbour and behind the organised beach, where the ferries dock and the island's rooms cluster, and a few traditional taverns stand a short walk inland — about five minutes from the Kamares guesthouse. As the busiest point on the island, Alopronia is the easiest place for an evening meal, close to the sand and the sunbeds. The port and beach are described on the island guide.

Kastro and Chora

Up on the north side of the island, the twin hill villages of Kastro and Chora keep the odd kitchen among their lanes. Kastro, the larger of the two and the island's centre, is the more likely place to find a taverna, with old houses, churches and wide views; Chora, the smaller village beside it with its ruined houses and windmills, is quieter still. A bus climbs to the villages from Alopronia, so an evening up here pairs well with a walk to the Zoodochos Pigi monastery. The villages are on the Sikinos sights guide.

Eating on a quiet island

Because Sikinos has only a couple of tavernas, it pays to eat where and when they are open rather than to hunt for choice. Alopronia is the reliable base, with the most kitchens and the harbour setting; Kastro and Chora suit a quieter evening after a day among the sights. Opening hours are seasonal on a small island, so most tavernas run through the summer and thin out around it — a good reason to stay near the port, where the beaches and rooms are also set out on the Sikinos hotels & villas guide.
