Psariotes Taverna, Linaria
Psariotes Taverna sits in the harbour of Linaria on the west coast. Hans ordered spaghetti with lobster, fish, a Greek salad and half a litre of white wine, and the service was very friendly, with a free starter thrown in. The lobster spaghetti was good and the plate generous, though one of the two fish had not been cleaned properly. His verdict was 8 out of 10.
Magari Taverna, Linaria
Magari Taverna stands in Linaria harbour right next to Psariotes. Hans ordered a Greek salad, fava with anise, Skyrian cheese pie, grilled sardines and half a litre of white wine, and found the food very good and original, with fresh bread and delicious wine and no complaints at all. His verdict was 9 out of 10.
Almathia Taverna, Chora
Almathia Taverna sits in Skyros Chora, diagonally opposite Hotel Nefeli where Hans stayed, and he ate there twice. Both times he ordered goat in lemon sauce and a chicken dish with fries, along with Greek salad, tzatziki and white wine, and each time the kitchen sent out free extra dishes of hot cheese, sausage or fried saganaki. The food, fries included, was terrific and the service by Poppy and her colleague very friendly. His verdict was 9.5 out of 10.
Manna Cafe, Chora
Manna Cafe Eatery is in Skyros Chora, a little past the main square as you walk up into the town. It serves drinks and simple meals. Hans stopped only for coffee, which was very good, with friendly service. His verdict was 9 out of 10.
Juicy Beach Bar, Magazia
Juicy Beach Bar is a large, modern eatery on Magazia beach, a gathering place for local youth, with trendy music and beach chairs and umbrellas for hire. Hans ordered an omelette, a Greek salad and half a litre of white wine. The food was standard tourist fare with no culinary surprises, though the service was very friendly. His verdict was 6 out of 10.
