The village of Apoini on Crete

Apoini is a small village located in the fertile Messara plain, in an area which is mostly agricultural. Apoini lies on the route of Pyrgos to Asimi, not far from the village of Sokaras. The village already existed in the 16th century. The village of Apoini has two churches. It is very quiet here and it feels deserted. Many of the houses in Apoini are falling down and are deserted. The residents of the village live mainly from agriculture, olive groves and herding sheep and goats. Striking are the many bunches of grapes hanging along the houses.
