Samonas is a small quiet traditional village in the Apokoronas area (except for when the dogs start barking, ahah!), close to Kalives and the village of Armeni, at a 25 kilometer distance from Chania. The village is mainly agricultural and it feels littered with small churches. There are beautiful views over the bay of Chania. You will pass Samonas if you want to visit the 11th century Byzantine Church of Agios Nikolaos just outside Chiliomoudou. Samonas can be reached if you take the exit to Armeni from the highway in between Georgioupolis and Chania or from Kalives. You follow the route Armeni - Provarma - Samonas.
