THE VILLAGE AND THE BEACHES OF KOUTSOURAS IN THE SOUTHEAST OF CRETE
The village of Koutsouras is situated in the south of Crete in the Lasithi province. It lies just west of Makrigialos (2 kilometers) on the route to Ierapetra. Koutsouras is the administrative centre of the region. It was established in the middle of the 19th century by inhabitants of the mountain village of Stavrohori and now about 800 people live here. In the village are a few taverns and two larger super markets and there is a post office and a town hall. In the village of Koutsouras you find small pebble beaches (less attractive than the ones in Makrigialos). In the vicinity some accommodations can be found but the majority of the population here lives from agriculture.
