<The villages of Saktouria and Kato Saktouria on Crete
Saktouria and Kato Saktouria are the two small and dreamy villages that you will pass when you drive down the mountains on your way to the sandy beaches of Agios Pavlos, in the south of Crete, a little west of Agia Galini. If you come from the north od the island of Crete you follow the road from Rethimnon to Spili and than further south to Agios Pavlos. When you leave the main road at the junction the road becomes more narrow (but it stays good with the exception of a few bumps). Besides the asfalt road that leads through the villages of Saktoura and Kato Saktoura it looks like time has stood still here.
There are white traditional houses and a couple of small churches in the villages and the views from here over the mountains, the valley and the sea are very pretty. The villagers live mainly from farming and goat herding. The last few kilometers to Agios Pavlos (estimate about 45 minutes) go down over a curvy road with many bends in it.
