Hamezi or Chamezi is a charming small traditional mountain village with white houses situated 10 kilometers east of Sitia on the new national road. It is very quiet with here and there a fruit tree, and people have pots with flowers in front of their houses. Hamezi was inhabited since the Minoan times and the village has an archaeological Minoan site. On the top of a hill an oval villa in the shape of a fortress has been excavated. This villa used to have two floors and a protected courtyard.
In Hamezi there is also a Folklore Museum in an old stone building with archways, and it shows how people used to live.
