The Agios Ioannis Eleimon Monastery in Pazinos on Crete
On the Akrotiri peninsula in the village of Pazinos, on the road from Souda to the airport and the Agia Triada Monastery, you can find the abandoned Agios Ioannis Eleimon (the "Merciful") Monastery. This monastery is surrounded by high and thick walls and it is built in a fortress style. The building dates from the 17th century and it is restored but when we were there it was closed (since it is abandonned) and there were no signs with opening times.
Sticking out from one of the walls is a church which is painted pink. The monastery is situated at the entrance to the small village next to the playground of the school, directly on the right side of the road and cannot be missed if you drive towards the airport. Behind the monastery there is a large square.
