The village of Meseleri on the island of Crete

The village Meseleri or Meseleroi is located in the Lassithi prefecture north of Ierapetra. It can be reached via the route Ierapetra - Kentri - Makrilia - Meseleri. The distance to Ierapetra is 9 kilometers. The village is situated on the site of the ancient city Oleros and in the area there are still some ancient remains. The main attraction of the village is the monastery of Panagia Vryomen located 4 kilometers east of the village. There is a church from 1401 with frescoes from the 15th century, and the expansion of the monastery dates from about 1550.

Meseleri is a lively little village. Various fruits such as grapes and pomegranates are grown along the streets. There is a school and there are kafenions and two tavernas. On the village square is the nice big St. John's church with a bell tower. A little bit more on the outskirts of the village, not far from this large church, stands the small Agios Georgios Church in which are ancient frescoes (unfortunately the church was closed but there was a window in the church through which you could still could see a bit of them).
