The village of Mouzouras on the island of Crete

This small and peaceful village is situated on the Akrotiri peninsula, a short distance north of the airport of Chania and close to the Agia Triada Monastery. A nice place for plane spotters. In addition to the village church and a nice cave church you can find a very small and relatively new church that belongs to the house of one of the residents.
If you walk through the village you will discover what at first glance looks like a little bit higher built home. This is the Tower of Mouzouras, a small fortification from the Venetian or even Ottoman period. It is a three-storey building with the entrance on the first floor and all around there are holes through which one could shoot with a rifle on intruders. The tower was in ruine for a long time, but has now been restored and is inhabited again. Around the tower there were outbuildings such as mills and a barn, which now have been converted into houses.

In the village of Mouzouras refurbished or modern houses are standing next to the ruins of old houses. Many grapes are growing in Mouzouras and striking is that quite a few people have pots and pans hanging outside on the walls as a kind of decoration. The cute cave church of Mouzouras can be seen from a distance and is located in the northwest of the village. It is easily accessible by a path. From here you have the best view of the airport and the valley in which it is located.
