The village of Epano Sisi on the island of Crete
Epano Sisi or "upper Sisi" is a traditional Cretan village a couple of kilometers east of Malia. You can reach it when you take the exit from the main road to Milatos and Sisi. The road to Epano Sisi and the coast is a curvy one.
Down below is the better known tourist resort of Sisi with all its restaurants and accommodations. Epano Sisi is not very large and most of the buildings are still traditional and made of stone. There is also farmland in and around the village.
On a small square at the crossroads in the village there are two tavernas you can choose from if you want something to eat. Next to these tavernas is a small church with (new) wall paintings.
To Geraki taverna is situated at the crossroads in the village of Epano Sisi and it is one of the two tavernas inside the village. The food is simple but honest. There are several appetizers, salads and omelettes, grilled meat and chicken, fried aubergines, cheese pies and vegetable pies. The bread is fresh and comes with butter.
Our verdict: a 7,5 out of 10
